About Us
Our team is made up of several knowledgeable stylists, most of whom have been at Style on 2nd for over 20 years. That’s rather rare in our industry, and speaks to the fun, relaxed atmosphere we strive to create for our clients.
The way we see it, if we look forward to coming to work, you’ll look forward to visiting. Which we hope you’ll do very soon.
Chris Vandehey, Owner & Creative Director
To call Chris a “creature of habit” would be an understatement. Born and raised in Banks, Oregon, Chris first came to Style On Second Hair Design in 1975. Two years later, he bought the studio, and has been in the same location in the heart of downtown Portland ever since. If you’re doing the math, that’s 33 years!
Chris is an award-winning stylist and a published artist and educator for the Aquage line of hair care and styling products. When he’s not working with his clients, he is teaching hair design and styling techniques to stylists and students across the country. You can reach Chris for an appointment by calling him directly at (503) 228-1618.
Laura King, Stylist
Laura has been with Style On 2nd for 20 years, many of which she has spent as an educator and representative for the Redken Fifth Avenue line of hair care products. Laura specializes in advanced color techniques such as blonding, grey blending and grey coverage. You may schedule an appointment with her at (503) 913-0512.
Ed Sommer
Ed Sommer is a Master barber with a proud history of nearly 50 years of barber experience. Ed grew up in Sacramento area where he was initially taught how to cut hair by his father. Ed graduated from barber school in 1965 after his service in the US Army. After a few years as a respected barber in Sacramento, he found an opportunity in Lahaina, Hawaii where he spent 10 years cutting hair. Ed was offered a position in Portland at the prestigious Multnomah Athletic Club and spent 20 years as the lead barber. Eventually, Ed jointed his friend and colleague at JJ’s in downtown Portland. Ed is now available for appointments at Style on 2nd. Friendly, skilled, and comfortable with the latest styles, Ed would welcome your business. You can schedule an appointment with Ed at (503) 705-7320.
At Style On 2nd Hair Design, we have been serving many of our clients for decades. In fact, some of our regulars are second generation clients!
We gladly welcome new clients and greatly appreciate your referrals!
